The Bathing House
Water drawn from the estate's own spring, kept warm year round, three pools, fire-lit saunas, and a long room for doing nothing at all.
A spring rises beneath the old kitchen garden, as it has for centuries. We do little to it but warm it and let you in.
The bathing house was built into the walled garden in 1908 and restored, slowly, over the last decade. Residents bathe freely from seven in the morning until ten at night; treatments are taken by the hour in rooms lit by candle and fire.
The bathing house holds
The main spring-fed pool under glass, kept warm through the seasons.
Straight from the spring, for the brave and the converted.
Fired each afternoon, scented with estate rosemary and bay.
Eucalyptus and mint, drawn from the kitchen-garden beds.
Daybeds and a wood stove above the pool, with tea and the papers.
A small heated pool in the walled garden, open to the sky.
